What made you look behind the jw curtain?
by Touchofgrey ini was listening to a lunchtime call in radio show about jws and the personal experiences of being disfellowshiped, and a former elder called in saying he was disfellowshiped for asking about jws and their involvement in the un in the 1990s ,and he just said look it up.. thinking that it was a made up lie ,so i looked it up and it was true even a letter confirming it from the un itself and that led me here and to jwfacts and further research into the history and teachings of jw and walked out the door about 5 years ago.

Serious sinner?
by Gorb inwith the statement in the study watchtower this sunday, that stop serving jehovah is a serious sin, the following:.
- can i conclude now, that we, (i, wife and 2 children), since 2008 pomo and no longer active in any religious activity, are serious sinners for jehovahs witnesses?.
writing this in a watchtower, a statement like that, could have big implications.. it makes me so sad.

Using the word "sin " so they can manipulate and control it followers so they won't leave the high control group.

JWN, 23 years posting Blondie
by blondie incan i call you friends, i think so after 23 years posting here.
i am dismayed how jwn is being "dominated" or taken over by a few posters, peppering the comments.
in the past, the admin did not approve of this and did remove some posters from jwn.

Some do promote their own religious beliefs as in some way superior to the JW beliefs, And if you don't accept their version of jesus you won't be saved and you should be concerned about the consequences of that decision, that's using coercive language to try to make people accept their version of jesus ,and that's a controlling behaviour, which is the same as jws use to control their followers (victims).
Individuals should be allowed to make a decision about their beliefs or lack of belief based on their own independent research and not being manipulated by others.
As someone who no longer believes in a god or gods because of independent research and following the evidence, and that was by making a personal examination of the bible and its teachings and history and not being coercived by others especially under veiled threats.
So having a discussion on bible topics in a neutral way as it was the way on this site for a long time ,look back at topics in the past you will see that.

In agreement with blondie
It's like a recruitment drive for people to join their version of Christianity even before people have been given the opportunity and time to deconstruct from being in a high control group and then do their own independent research so they can make a informed decision for themselves.

What evidence is there for a biblical jesus?
by Touchofgrey inis there any independently verified evidence that a miracle worker called jesus existed and did the things that the bible said he did?.
the four gospels were written by unknown authors many decades after the so called events, so can't be considered as eyewitness accounts.
i think that there may have been a apocalyptic preacher who was executed by the romans and the story evolved from their.

People are free to believe what they want, just as we were when we were jws, and something or someone said or did something to make us think about whether what we were being told was true or not (UN exposure for me) and then you do independent research and discover that we were being lied to and controlled and manipulated.
For those who insist he never existed, all I asked was for evidence that a miracle worker called jesus existed and the evidence clearly showed that he did not.
I just hope that raising this question someone reading the well researched factual evidence given will go on to do their own research into the topic and the bible in general without being told that jesus loves you but he knows were you stay .

the thing - I was an atheist for about half my life, so I already know how they think. I believed in evolution. I did the college thing and I know the typical response that so-called "educated" atheists give. I was one of them.
I was raised as a jw and was one until about 7 years ago I'm in my 60s now and then I started to read the bible properly and do some independent research into the story's and history of the bible, its fascinating how the bible evolved into what it is today and now I'm a atheist, you should read the bible with a open and honest mind and remove the god glasses and forget about god magic and then you we see that the bible is the uninspired word of man.

All dated decades after the so called events, so not eyewitness accounts, no proof that he was anything more than a end of time preacher who upset the Romans so they executed him like many others at that time.
